Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Management is required. Formal HIM education with national certification (RHIA, RHIT) preferred. Certification Required: CCS, CCS-P, CPC or CPC-H coding certification required. Current and active certification required which must be maintained in good standing. Minimum of five (5) years progressive outpatient coding (must include Emergency Department coding including assignment of E&M facility levels) or coding review experience in ICD-10-CM with claims processing and data management responsibilities a plus. Good oral and written communication skills and comprehensive knowledge of outpatient coding and regulatory requirements. Past auditing experience or strong training background in coding and reimbursement preferred. Strong interpersonal skills and verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrates professionalism, tact, and diplomacy when working with the medical staff, outside organizations, and other hospital departments. Experience in administrative and staff management. High attention to detail. Excellent PC application skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint—minimum). Equivalent experience, education and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirements.
The primary purpose of the Outpatient Coding Data Quality Auditor/Educator position is to ensure consistency and efficiency in outpatient coding and data collection to optimize APC reimbursement and facilitate data quality in hospital outpatient services.
