Qualifications: Certified Advanced Practice Nurse in the State of New Jersey with the minimum of a Master’s Degree in Nursing required. Minimum of two (2) years’ of clinical nursing experience in Maternal-Child or Obstetrical and Gynecological specialties required. Knowledge of the “Centering Pregnancy Model” for prenatal care preferred. Lactation Counseling Certification (CLC) preferred. Essential requirements include computer literacy, working predetermined flexible hours, BLS (CPR). ACLS certification required or must be attained within first six (6) months of employment. Bilingual preferred.
Responsibilities: The primary purpose of the APN Provider for the Centering Pregnancy Program in the OB/GYN Service is to provide high quality care to prenatal patients of University Hospital while incorporating the concepts of Centering. The APN will work to expand the current Centering Program at UH. Must be clinically competent in providing Obstetrical Services for the prenatal/postpartum patient. Uses excellent communication skills to execute the Centering Model. Recruits prenatal patients into the Program while assuming the role of Clinical Provider, educator and facilitator of group dynamics. Collects and records program metrics, with the assistance of the Centering Coordinator. The Centering APN will work in conjunction with the Centering Attending, Centering Coordinator, as well as the prenatal support team including Attending Physicians, Residents, Nurses, Social Workers, Health Educator, Nutritional Support, and ancillary staff.
